The New Mexico Interfaith Dialogue will be having a Zoom meeting on Thursday February 15th, 4:00 pm -5:30 pm. Our speaker will be Professor Esther Yazzie-Lewis and she will talk about the Navajo faith and prayer.
Esther Yazzie-Lewis
Professor Esther Yazzie-Lewis grew up south of Farmington. Navajo is her first language and she learned English at school. She grew up herding sheep and farming. Professor Yazzie-Lewis worked for the Navajo Law Enforcement and Navajo Judicial Branch.
She continued her education at UNM and received her Bachelor in Political Science and a Master in Public Administration and American Studies. Professor Yazzie-Lewis has worked with the Navajo People in the Navajo/ Hopi land dispute, and she also has worked on the uranium problems in the Navajo reservation. She co-authored The Navajo People and Uranium Mining. She is a board member of the Southwest Research and Information Center. She also works with a number of Navajo people on the reservation in relation to environmental and social justice. She is certified in the Navajo Language for the United States District Court for the southwest states. She also has trained numerous Navajo people in interpreting in our courts with the University of Arizona. Professor Esther Yazzie-Lewis worked for the United States District Court for the District of New Mexico. She is now retired and teaches conversational Navajo for the University of New Mexico as part of its continuing education program. She has been inducted into the Navajo Nation Hall of Fame for her work.
